Why Harry Potter Should Launch a Quidditch Film Series

The original Harry Potter franchise was a powerful story about danger, growing up and friendship, and within the cracks of a tale of such narrative importance, there are other aspects that readers and viewers are deeply connected with. One of the best examples of this was the history of past characters and their mysteries. As a result, stories like the Fantastic Beasts franchise were born and offered a look at the earlier lives of heroes like Dumbledore and newcomers like Newt Scamander.

That said, even the Fantastic Beasts franchise had a heavily important narrative that explored the deeper concepts of class and the origins of Wizards. Because of this, some of the more lighthearted aspects of the genre had to take a backseat. One of the best examples of this was Quidditch, an intense mix of Rugby and Soccer on a broomstick. Being that it's the most exciting and dangerous sport in the franchise, it could be the start of a brand-new film series.

A Quidditch Series Could Introduce a New Genre

Shown mainly during Hogwarts games, Quidditch has a massive following in the Wizarding World. The sport itself has teams from across the world. With centuries of the sport in the history books, there's bound to be more than a few iconic Quidditch players, and through their history, a new franchise could start that would introduce the sports genre to the Wizarding World.

Sports films have always been inspirational, as they're often tales of underdogs or players that have faced unbeatable odds. A Quidditch film could do the same with a brand-new character introduced with a desire to be the best player in the league. From there, they could overcome adversities -- whether it be poor equipment, lack of resources or self-doubt -- and climb their way to absolute victory. However, as a series, each film could follow said character through each stage of the sport, from school leagues to professional matches.

Quidditch Explores Different Aspects of the Wizarding World

What the Fantastic Beasts films took advantage of to great success was expanding the Wizarding World in new ways. Through Newt, audiences witnessed how magic was conducted in the United States and Germany, as well as the similarities and differences in each magical culture. The same could be done with a Quidditch series. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire gave fans a glimpse at the mass appeal and spectacle surrounding the sport, but it didn't give them enough time to see what makes a team special and how different competing could be on a professional level.

A Quidditch film could follow its main character around the world, seeing the various customs of each country and how each team acts differently based on this. Ultimately, it would create a greater culture for the franchise and showcase how centuries of magic have affected these countries and the customs they've tied themselves to. A Quidditch series has the potential to be a fun and inspiring franchise. However, it could equally be used as a tool to bring people together by showing their differences and similarities and how all conflict could be pushed aside in favor of a sport that has brought magical folk together for centuries.
